February is Healthy Heart Month! Show yourself some love by taking care of yourself and getting your health on the right track!
The first thing to do is look at your family history and see if someone in your family has had heart disease. Talk to your doctor about your risks for developing this condition. Make sure you are eating well and exercising. You are what you eat. So make sure you are eating lots of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, lean mean/poultry, and dairy. If you have a poor diet, it's time to make those changes to become heart healthy. If you are a smoker, this can greatly increase your chance of getting heart disease. Cut that bad habit out of your life early on. And lastly, make sure to keep track of your own numbers. If your blood pressure, cholesterol, or weight is out of range and at an unhealthy level talk with your doctor on ways to lower it. Even though cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death for men and women it is PREVENTABLE. Take care of yourself and start making those lifestyle changes today!
